The Biggest Trends To Come Out Of New York Fashion Week And How To Shop Them

Colour

Finally! After nothing but beige, whites and blacks on the runway, it looks like designers are getting as bored as we are. Most incorporated bold colours and prints into their collections this season and we couldn’t be more ready to get on board (though it pays to note there were still a lot of beige trenches to be seen). Think colour blocking pinks and reds, like Carolina Herrera’s show did so well, or top-to-toe daisy yellow at Marc Jacobs.

Glamorous evenings

Designers went all out for their evening wear this season with an array of dresses that wouldn’t be amiss walking down the wedding aisle, rather than runway and huge, Instagram friendly voluminous structured gowns by the likes of Area and Rodarte. When donning one of these creations, it’s better to go big or go home with your accessories too.

Cerulean

“What you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean,” Meryl Streep famously told a flummoxed Anne Hathaway in the Devil Wears Prada, and guess what: that ‘lumpy blue sweater’ is now right on trend. Pantone named its 2020 color of the year “Classic Blue,” so it’s surprising that there were varying shades on the runway this season. Our favourite take is cerulean, especially when worn all over - accessories included.

Equestrian chic

“Grab your best riding boots and call Serena van der Woodsen because equestrian, preppy style is back. As seen front and centre at Michael Kors - with Blake Lively fittingly sitting front row - plaid, tweed and box skirts that wouldn’t be amiss at an Upper East Side high school.
